Make It Stick
Automate your savings — Set up automatic transfers on payday. If the money never hits your checking account, you won't miss it.
Track for one month — Use your bank statements to see where you actually are. Then adjust toward your target ratios gradually.
Be honest about needs vs. wants — Most people overcategorize wants as needs. If you'd survive without it, it's a want.
Average over 3–6 months — Some months you'll overspend (holidays, birthdays). That's fine. Look at the trend, not one month.
Remember: The 50/30/20 rule isn't about restriction. It's about intentionality. You're not giving up the things you love — you're just making sure you love them enough to choose them on purpose.
